The Montessori Method, Reggio Emelia Approach and STEAM
We follow the traditional Montessori Method with the belief that cognitive development is the product of interaction between the individual and the environment. Our goal is to spark a child’s interest in learning, helping them to become lifelong learners.
The Reggio Emilia approach is an educational philosophy focused on preschool and primary education. Children are believed “knowledge bearers,” so they are encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas about their learnings to their teachers and peers.
STEAM is a national initiative used in all public and most private schools, pushing students to be critical thinkers- able to apply all learning to real life situations.
IXL is a personalized learning program designed to meet the unique needs of each learner while reinforcing what the child learns in the classroom. IXL is trusted by more than 400,000 teachers and your child will find the support they need to learn, grow, build confidence and motivation.

Curriculum & Foreign Language
Maria Montessori believed that there are “sensitive periods” in a child’s development. The curriculum also takes natural advantage of this and has the child make choices regarding the lessons of the day. There is a whole-language approach to reading, composition and literature, which immerses the child in the activity, and refinement is an ongoing process. Math moves from concrete to abstract ideas and is noted for its use of high-quality hands-on, self-correcting learning materials. The child crystallizes a clear image of how math works and can readily understand symbolic math with no particular need to memorize rote math facts. Many math concepts are introduced at an early age (plain and solid geometry, logic, etc.), and students enjoy the regular application of math across the daily curriculum.
Our students learn to work and play with others in a peaceful, caring community. Tolerance, acceptance, encouragement, mental health are embodied in all activities. Students develop and identify a clear sense of self, values and social conscience.
MRA promotes early exposure to the study of the world. From the toddler to elementary years, the child relates self and family with history and culture. Science is a normal part of the day, drawn to naturally occurring experiments. The scope of science includes botany, zoology, geology, astronomy, chemistry and physics.
Practical life learning is a cornerstone of our education. The child duplicates adult tasks (dusting, cleaning, washing dishes, budgeting etc.), which teaches motor skills and respect for materials simultaneously.
MRA additionally has strong commitments to foreign language/Sign Language and Reggio. Spanish/Sign Language is taught daily, even at the toddler age, helping children express needs in a non-verbal manner and reduce the frustration level in the earliest stages of verbal expression. Music expands beyond appreciation to performance and music theory, and art encompasses media exploration with geometrical concepts of perspective, etc. In the Primary Classes Spanish and French are taught to the students.
Teachers, who’s primary role is a facilitator, communicate and work with parents, keeping the needs and potential of the child in perspective. Parents can reinforce learning by understanding and participating in the Montessori philosophy at home.
Our kindergarteners are independent readers, writers, and scientist. Our program complies with Fort Bend ISD’s standards and ensures a foundation of success for the grade levels to come. It consists of:
- Montessori and Reggio experiences in the morning, traditional kindergarten in the afternoon
- Prepares children for public or private school
- Offers differentiated instruction, individual support, and flexibility
- Avoids “teaching to the middle” – the sky is the limit on how much each student can progress!
- Provides foreign language instruction
- Celebrating diversity and multiculturalism through special activities, year-round.
- Teacher-to-student ratios are the low
- Multi-age classroom, encouraging older children to teach their younger peers, taking learning to a whole new level.
